General Impression
We had booked the Ca´Nigra Hotel for a night before our Adriatic cruise on Constellation.
I had come across this hotel incidentally in 2015, when I had spent a day by myself roaming the streets of Venice with my camera. I liked it the minute I saw it and immediately decided to book it for our night in Venice before our cruise.
The inconspicuous entrance in a wall does not give you much of a hint of the jewel hidden behind it. As you pass through the entrance, you enter the garden of a peaceful oasis in the middle of the otherwise buzzing lagoon city. It is wonderfully quiet, and the path underneath the planted arches exudes a certain snugness.
Inside the building, we immediately liked how they had maintained the elegance of an old, classic palazzo and complemented it harmoniously with modern elements and amenities to meet the standards of a contemporary, upscale hotel.
The gentleman at the reception was very friendly and already gave us the key to our room at 10.00 am. The room confirmed what we should see throughout the hotel. Despite modern influences, they had preserved the old Venetian charm of the premises.
The classically designed room was fitted with a glass wall, which separated the bedroom from a state-of-the-art bathroom in a minimalistic and luxurious design.
Behind the inviting breakfast room on the ground floor we found a beautiful rose garden with a pergola right on the Grand Canal. Drinks are served here in the afternoon.
In the morning we enjoyed a typical Italian breakfast. Whether it’s real, our imagination or simply the vacation mood - Italian cappuccino is simply the best. And it was served by very friendly hotel staff.
We both agreed: stying at this fantastic place made our day in Venice even more memorable and we would love to do it again.
Location
Very good! Wether you arrive by train or take the ATVO Venice Airport Express Bus, the hotel can easily be reached. From the Express Bus stop at Piazzale Roma you cross the canal using the bridge “Ponte della Costituzione” which takes you to the square in front of the train station. From there you cross the Canale Grande using the “Ponte degli Scalzi”. Through a few typical Venetian alleys and up and down some small stairs and bridges you will soon reach the small entrance to the hotel grounds. It took us about 10 minutes.
Please be aware that Venice is the city of canals and bridges. If you are not comfortable with carrying your luggage across some of them, porters are available to take you and your luggage to your destination.
The people mover to the cruise port is also located at Piazzale Roma, making the hotel ideal for a cruise.
