Part 4 - Sea Days
Part 4 - At Sea 1
We started this first day at sea with some exercise at the gym followed by the reward of a quiet breakfast at Blu.
That morning, the Cruise Connection Party was scheduled, where members of RollCalls on Cruise Critic could meet and make arrangements. Although we hadn’t booked any tours with others on this trip, we wanted to meet a few members we had met on previous cruises. During the event, Damien, the Cruise Director, introduced some officers, and even the Captain made a surprise appearance.
If you know our reviews, you know that I usually spend the days at sea doing my photo tours of the ship. No difference here.
Reception of the Spa area
The Sky Observation Lounge
During the day a popular retreat with comfortable seating and panoramic views, at night a bar with live music and dancing.
The „Solstice Class Tree“
Found on all ships of the Solstice class it is always attached high up in the Centrum in different ways.
Team Earth
The Team Earth area has a pleasant design, but we didn’t find it as frequently used as the Hideaway on the Silhouette and the Reflection, which replaces the Team Earth on those ships and is always well used as another retreat.
The „Art Room“ in the passage to the specialty restaurants.
In the area of the specialty restaurants there was a kind of open house. You could visit the restaurants, and some of their meals were displayed on tables in front of them.
Murano
Dishes at Qsine
Tuscan Grille
A string duo was playing in the lobby.
I took the opportunity to take some pictures of the empty Blu, which is also located in this area.
Then I went to the „Moonlight Sonata“, the main dining room. It has a modern design and at the same time it radiates an inviting elegance.
Cellar Masters Wine Bar
Fortunes Casino
Quasar Nightclub
The Guest Choir practicing at Celebrity Central
And a watch sale was held at the Entertainment Court.
Lunch was already being served again at the Ocean View Café.
In addition to the usual towels, cuddly blankets were also provided on the many loungers of the partially covered sun deck. Many guests used them to have a nap.
The Sunset Bar and the Lawn Club, on the other hand, weren’t very well frequented.
At times, the Hot Glass show was even completely cancelled.
That night was „Evening Chic“ night, which had replaced the Formal Night. As usual, we spent it at Blu and afterwards enjoyed the view from the Sky Observation Lounge. It was obvious that we were heading north, because even around 10.00 pm we could still marvel at the sunset.
For many, this did by no means mark the end of the day. The dance floor was full, and Ursula and Wolfgang were soon hooked, too.
At Sea 2
We also started this second day at sea with a visit to the gym and breakfast at the Ocean View Café, which was still surprisingly quiet.
As good as breakfast at Blu might be, I prefer the choice of the buffet... a little here, a little there, a wide selection of bread and pastries and, of course, my beloved Eggs Benedict.
The buffet catered for both American and English guests, who are known to love their bacon in different ways and maintain a certain rivalry in whose is ultimately the best way.
And there were more English specialties on offer – fish, black pudding and baked apples.
Passengers with a smaller - or healthier – appetite could also find food to their liking at the Aqua spa Café next to the Solarium Pool.
On this trip, this area was well heated and, therefore, well attended during the day.
I used the time after breakfast to continue my photo tour of the day before.
The Library
The Centrum with a view of different decks
Card Room
The Celebrity Lounge – internet café and Apple Store in one
Luminae – the restaurant reserved for suite guests
The lobby with its various service desks.
The lower shopping gallery
Café al Bacio enticing not only for its delicacies and coffee specialties, but also for its cozy seating.
Bistro on Five is opposite the Café al Bacio, but it is gradually being replaced by Sushi on Five on all ships.
Entertainment Court
As usual, we spent the time after dinner at the Sky Lounge.
At around 9.00 pm you could feel a joyful excitement fill the lounge – Iceland was in sight. We all felt like explorers at their first sighting of land, and all were happy that we had now reached the country, which must have been everybody’s reason to book this cruise.
It was indescribable. The guests in the lounge were as excited as little children, and many were literally glued to the windows. The view of the snow and ice covered volcanic rocks itself was impressive. And it was presented to us with a beautiful sunset. On top of that – against this stunning backdrop, a solitary whale appeared and passed by towards the land. An unforgettable evening.
That night we crossed the Arctic Circle, which was confirmed to us with a certificate, which was delivered to our stateroom a few days later.
